Hollywood A-lister and one of the most “memed” actors of all time, Nicolas Cage, is set to star in another thriller.

Although the movie, titled Vengeance: A Love Story, was first mentioned a few years ago with the legendary Samuel L. Jackson attached to the main role, Harold Becker’s project has obviously taken a new turn.

The anticipated thriller, whose screenplay was written by John Mankiewicz, is based on Joyce Carol Oates’s 2003 novel titled Rape: A Love Story.

The story follows Teena, a 30-year-old single mother, who gets gang raped and left for dead while her young daughter Bethie witnesses the horrid ordeal. After a traumatic court case, the assailants get exonerated due to “Teena’s provocative” manner. However, Teena doesn’t realize that a Gulf War veteran policeman plans to bring the assailants to justice.

Cage will play Dromoor, the vengeful veteran. No other casting details have been mentioned yet, however, Becker will probably make all the right calls, much like with his previous works on Mercury Rising, Sea Of Love, and Domestic Disturbance.

The screenplay is also in good hands, as Mankiewicz’s resume includes immensely popular and successful TV shows like House Of Cards, The Mentalist, and House M.D.
