An angel gets its wings every time a rumor gets confirmed. Speculations have been flying around for some time that Sony was in hot pursuit for LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller for an animated Spider-Man film!

The new animated movie is said to exist independently from the live-action Spider-Man film (currently in development), and won’t impact the live-action’s release date or the planned cameos in upcoming Marvel films.

It’s still pretty unclear whether the talented pair will direct this animated Spider-Man project, but allegedly, Sony wants them to fill in that job spot as well, along with writing and producing the animated film.

The exciting news was confirmed during CinemaCon, and tweeted out into the world via press. Allegedly, Lord and Miller’s animated Spider-Man will arrive somewhere in 2018, and it will “co-exist” with Sony and Marvel’s new Spider-Man live-action film.

Although Tom Rothman, Sony’s executive, initially said that the film will be keeping its new Andrew Garfield Spider-Man flow, the studio later said that just might not be the case.

The anticipated new Spider-Man will make his debut in Captain America: Civil War, before having his own movie premiere on July 27th, 2017, with Lord and Miller’s animated film arriving about a year later. We’re also expecting to see Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War.

LEGO Movie’s Lord and Miller are definitely keeping themselves busy. It was recently reported that the talented duo is developing a script for Warner Bros. ’ The Flash solo movie project.
