While promoting his latest film Steve Jobs, Danny Boyle revealed Trainspotting 2 is set to be filmed in May/June 2016.

The film will reunite all of the main actors from Trainspotting 1, including Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Johnny Lee Miller and Ewan Bremner.

Accommodating all four actors’ availability was certainly tricky so the producers opted for late spring shooting as to not conflict with Miller and Carlyle’s schedules and commitments to TV shows Elementary and Once Upon A Time.

“They only get this little window off, so either you wait for the contract to run down, which could be as late as three years, or you kind of try and do it in this window,” Boyle said.

“But all four lads are back in.”

Trainspotting 2 will have some similarities to Porno, Irvine Welsh’s sequel novel to Trainspotting, but Boyle also wants to make it his own.

“We’re doing it for less than $20 million, and that’ll give us control of the film so we can make the film we want to make,” he said. “Everyone’s attitude is that it’ll be an honourable addition and an interesting addition to the original film. We’re very positive that we believe it can happen and it’s coming true.”
