Ok, we all know Marvel movies are always expected to do well, but the early success of “Doctor Strange” has indeed come as something of a surprise.

“Doctor Strange” opened to a sterling $86 million overseas.

Though the movie was expected to stand shoulder to shoulder with “Ant-Man” or “Guardians of the Galaxy” (also the projects that introduced somewhat new characters to the audiences), no one really expected this much hype.

Destroying It Overseas

When the box office is compared to the same countries and adjusted for inflation, “Doctor Strange” is already doing 50% better than “Ant-Man”, and 35% better than “Guardians of the Galaxy”, as Deadline reports.

And the numbers are expected to increase this Friday, since more international markets are yet to be covered.

So, Why Is “Doctor Strange” So Popular?

The reasons why Marvel’s latest is so popular are rather elusive. Some say it is because the audiences aren’t that familiar with the character, others that it is all due to the film’s lead, Benedict Cumberbatch, who took the world by storm after the BBC’s ever so successful Sherlock.

However, it might all be because “Doctor Strange” is offering a new and very different take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The movie gives us a never-seen-before visual style as well, so it is actually no surprise that it is such success.

Yet To Kill It In North America

According to Cinema Blend, “Doctor Strange” is expected to have “a $75 million opening weekend, which would put it slightly behind the $85 million that “Thor: The Dark World” saw when it was released in the fall of 2013”.

Wait it out, we say…
