The talented and stunning Jessica Chastain is in deep negotiations for staring in a period drama, role that very much differs from her previous work (Lucille Sharpe in Crimson Peak).

The A-list actress is in talks for working on Woman Walks Ahead, in which she will be playing Caroline Weldon, a real-life activist.

The movie, which will be directed by Susanna White, will tell the story of the determined Weldon, a Brooklyn native from the 19th century who moved to a Native American reservation in the Dakotas to help Sitting Bull.

The Sioux chieftain wanted to keep his people’s land out of the hands of the American government, and Weldon wrote to the federal government and fought the fight alongside with him, despite being mocked by the media and general public. She ended up living on the land for many years, along with her son.

Woman Walking Ahead was written by Steven Knight, and it has been in plans for years.

If you want to see Chastain in the meantime, you can check her out in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, which is set for an April premiere.
