Dame Judi Dench has spoken publically on several occasions about losing her eyesight due to macular degeneration.

The 80-year-old English actress opened up in an interview with the Radio Times and revealed what it’s like to still work at the age of 80 while dealing with this serious health issue.

“These days I can’t really travel on my own because I need someone to say ‘Look out, there’s a step here!’ or else I fall all over the place like a mad, drunk lady,” the Bond star said.

It’s been two years since Dench told the world that acting has become a struggle with her deteriorating eyesight. The situation has changed somewhat since then, and the actress needs someone to read the lines to her so she can memorize them.

“I can’t read scripts anymore because of the trouble with my eyes. And so somebody comes in and reads them to me, like telling me a story. It’s usually my daughter or my agent or a friend and actually I like that, because I sit there and imagine the story in my mind.”
